The 1st Vice Chairman of the Dome-Kwabenya constituency for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Opoku, has said that the activities of religion must be regulated.
This comes after widely reported allegation of fetish priestess turn pastor, Patricia Asiedu better known as Evangelist Mama Pat, scamming her members under the pretense of doubling their money.
Mr. Opoku told Kwaku Dawuro that “this country we are more religious and not spiritual. The bible makes us understand that for lack of knowledge people perish. Just as the Vice President said that the NDC lacks knowledge because they don’t read, it’s the same way those who were duped do not read their bible hence they don’t know. Which church in this world does this, even during the days of Moses, it was Manna and not money. This is what happens when you’re lazy and wouldn’t want to work”.
He went further to say that enforcement of law in this country is a big challenge we are having. because he was hoping to see that the Ghana Revenue Authority would have invited Nana Agraada just a day after she made the announcement of distributing money, to find out from her, the source of her income and also the tax returns she’s made.
“Where did she get the 300,000 cedis from? We ought to know, because for all you may know, the monies she displayed were counterfeit. Why would the police have to wait until she had successful defrauded people before arresting her. One painful thing is that these things keep happening day in and out, yet, many still fall prey to these scams”, he said.
He noted that with all these going on, he’s just surprised that people still undermine the essence of the Ghana card- as the Ghana card will eliminate most of these acts.
“There are a lot of unscrupulous people- because they know that nobody questions you when it comes to religion. People will continue to suffer until we acquire knowledge. Those who are practicing proper ethics of the religion are even yearning that the religious activities are regulated. The law enforcement agencies are silence on this, and they need to act so that Ghanaians will be free”, he added.
“Religion ought to be regulated. You can have your freedom of religion but when your freedom allows you to get someone, the law shouldn’t turn a blind eye to it”, he concluded.
