A Communicator for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwabena Marfo, has suggested that road tolls be paid through road worthy fees.
According to him, every motorist pays road worthy and therefore it would have been in the best interest that if the rate for road tolls is added to the charges of road worthy.
Explaining this on Movement in the morning show on Movement TV/ Wontumi Radio, he said that there are people who are living in areas where they don’t get to use the road toll and hence do not pay but are benefiting from good roads constructed with revenues generated from the road tolls- as such, it would have been better if that money is added to the road worthy charges because everyone gets to pay that.
He continued that if a road is constructed it doesn’t only benefit motorists who ply the road, but also benefit residents of the area likewise, business owners and hence the need to support government’s revenue mobilizations to construct good roads.
“Therefore, road tolls shouldn’t be the burden of only road users. Every policy must be targeted at all, and the target should be that everyone must be made to pay road toll, either directly or indirectly. What we ought to know as Ghanaians is that the road toll is to supplement our road fund budget”, he stressed.
