The Public Relations Officer (PRO) for National Lottery Authority (NLA) has responded to the comment made by the ace broadcaster Mr. Kwasi Kyei Darkwah popularly known as KKD, on Sammy Awuku singlehandedly terminating Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC’s) draw contract with NLA.
Speaking on the above claims on Movement In The Morning Show with Kwaku Dawuro, Mr. Offei stated that management of GBC did not give the NLA value for money.
He said that ‘’the department of draw unit and the lotto marketing companies requested that the time for televising the draw must be looked at because most of our target market are not home by 6pm which is the draw time. We called on the management of GTV for a meeting on issues that concerns NLA. They did not show up upon several attempts. They ignored our call so we decided to move to where we can get result’’.
”NLA gives GTV Ghc2.4 million every year, but they refused to show up to address concerns. NLA as a business is always looking out to expanding its operations and our draws are the most trusted in Africa. Our boss Sammy Awuku and the team at NLA have never used any dubious means to terminate GBC’s contract”, he said.
‘’If NLA belongs to KKD and he is to decide on a station for viewership and reach, which of these two stations is he going to choose?’’, he quizzed.
He added that NLA is seeking to grow its reach and revenue, expand its operations, pay employees and for national development.
GTV in August 2021, (effective November 30, 2021) NLA terminated GTV’s draw contract but state broadcast channel did not respond to the letter nor take any steps to engage NLA, an indication that the latter may not be interested in the subject matter.
