The Inspector General of Police, George Akuffo Dampare is beginning to show glimpses of bias towards a particular political party when it comes to arresting those who flout the laws of the country, a top Communicator for the ruling New Patriotic Party has said.
Mr. Yaw Adomako Baafi has raised concerns about the way the IGP is quick to get top members of the ruling party arrested but scared to apply the same measure when it comes to dealing with top members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Focusing his case on the coup d’état comment made by Professor Raymond Atuguba, a former Executive Secretary to former President John Mahama, Mr. Baafi stated that he is surprised the Police administration under George Akuffo Dampare has not yet invited him.
In a public forum organised by Solidaire Ghana on February 28, Professor Raymond Atuguba said Ghana is ripe for coup if something is not immediately done to avert it.
But Speaking on Wontumi TV, the NPP’s former Director of Communication stated that the Bono regional Chairman for the NPP, Kwame Baffoe Abronye was arrested for saying John Mahama is planning to launch coup in Ghana.
He therefore wondered that if Abronye could be arrested for saying that then he sees no reason why the police is not acting swiftly to arrest both Professor Raymond Atuguba and Samuel Ofosu Ampofo.
“If you are able to arrest Raymond, we know he is doing the work and we would applaud him”, Yaw Adomako Baafi said.
Mr. Yaw Adomako Baafi also accused George Akuffo Dampare of instructing his men to arrest the NPP MP for Nhyiaeso, Stephen Amoah popularly called Sticka for a road traffic offense but is turning a blind eye on the NDC MP for Madina, Sosu who he said committed a greater crime by destroying state property through an illegal demonstration.
