The President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (G.P.C.C), Rev. Prof Frimpong-Manso, has said that some media houses are doing disservice to this country.
According to him, most media personnel cannot be described as journalist, as he alleged that they are probably been fed by someone and hence they are doing the devil’s work.
“We are responsible matured pastors and know what is right to be done. we never drove all the way from our houses to galamsey sites to pray. They were malicious, abusive and insulting to our intelligent. We can stay in our homes and pray, and God will listen. We have forgiven those journalists. We bear them no grudge”, he spoke to Kwaku Dawuro on Movement in the morning show on Wontumi FM/Movement TV.
This comes after widely reports, that suggests that some clergymen visited some galamsey sites to pray to end the activities of illegal mining.
He said that “Ghana is sitting on a time bomb. Galamsey is a taboo. We have spoken about this several times in our homes, churches and communities. We decided to hold a press conference and realized that the media will definitely ask if we have seen the devasting of the environment ourselves- therefore we decided to go there and do a quick finding. As staunch Christians as we are, we pray over everything. We pray before eating, sleeping and waking up among others. So, when we got there, we decided to pray and thank God for a safe journey. We are responsible citizens. I have been very angry, but we’ve forgiven them”.
He stressed that citizens of the country should be able to protect and preserve our environment for the next generation.
“Galamsey is causing so much devastation to us. Many suffering from cancer as a result of galamsey. In every country, there are institutions, like the Lands Commission, Forestry Commission, Security Services and judiciary. Let’s all say no to galamsey, change our attitude and ensure that we will protect our environment and also ensure perpetrators are stiffly punished to serve as a deterrent to others”, he added.
He urged Ghanaians not to politicize the fight against illegal mining. Noting that this is not a political battle, and as such one party cannot fight it.
