The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ga West, Honourable Clement Wilkinson has reacted to rumors making rounds on social media that he, together with other nine MMDCEs are shortlisted to be relieved off their positions.
In a report sighted on social media, the government officials are alleged to be making government unpopular in their various municipalities.
In reaction, he urged his sympathizers who are worried since the report flooded social media to remain calm. Noting that the President is the appointing authority and has the power to disappoint, if that happens, he has nothing to say.
Speaking to Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning show on Movement TV, he refuted claims that he’s making government unpopular.
“I don’t know what exactly I’m doing in the municipality to make government unpopular. Perhaps, it’s the ongoing project…which is the construction of the Ofankor-Nsawam road. The project couldn’t have been possible without the demolition of buildings along the site, this is what has sparked public uproar and there was no way we could have executed such project without carrying out the demolition…”, he said.
“One other allegation I sighted in the report on social media which accuses me of running “a one-man-show” in the municipality can never be true. The stakeholder involved in running the affairs of the assembly, including assembly members, Chiefs and communities are also consulted in every decision making. I have nothing much to say. I will only urge my sympathizers to remain calm”, he added.
He is said to be reluctant to listen to other key social actors in the area, including the Member of Parliament for the constituency and runs the municipality like his personal fiefdom. In effect, the activity of the MCE is said in the report to have made the government unpopular.
