Isaiah Sikayena an economist and a teacher at Ghana Technology University has said that teachers’ and nurses’ allowance must be cancelled to decrease the current economic pressure.
Speaking on Movement TV morning show, he stated that, government’s first mistake was the restoration of the teachers’ and nurses’ training allowance in September 2021.
“Restoring the training allowances was not the best approach. President Akuffo-Addo should have provided another alternative such as the student loan which would have been paid when they posted after their education”. he said
He added that, the country is going through economic difficulties therefore government must scrub the allowance until the economy bounces back.
In September 2021 when the teachers and nurses’ trainee allowance was restored, the six months arrears was paid bringing back smiles on the faces of our trainees, and since then, students in the teachers and nursing training schools have been receiving a monthly stipend of 399.
