US based Ghanaian economist and Analytics Consultant, Rexford Thompson Kortey, has described the Akufo-Addo led government as a listening government.
He said most of the things contained in the finance minister’s presentation is an indication that government listens to his citizen and has put into consideration, most of the concerns raised by Ghanaians. Stressing that his expectations were met.
“The things government mentioned in the budget were reflecting exactly what the public have been calling for. This tells that Ghanaians have a listening government, who feels what the citizens are going through and has therefore effected changes. Currently, with Ghana’s state of the economy, we need a policy that can positively affect our recovery from the global pandemic faster. We could all attest to the fact that the economy had faced several global challenges and therefore we need to stimulate economic growth and ensure development”, he said.
Noting that before a country could stimulate its economic growth or development, it must first check its revenue mobilization.
..If you increase tax while stimulating growth, its counterproductive. If there are so many taxes, people cannot afford things they need and cannot use their monies as they want. This is exactly the reason government has initiated process for a zero rate VAT on locally produced sanitary pads. This will help reduce the price and increase patronage. With this, the factory could employ more workers, and this will in turn help reduce youth unemployment. Likewise same waiver for assembly electric cars…”, he added.Â
He concludes that these are clear indications that government wants the best for his people.
