A private legal practitioner, Lawyer Ralph Agyapong, has said the Attorney General (AG), Godfred Yeboah Dame is more powerful than the President of the Republic.
His comment comes after Lawyer Ace Ankomah had said the AG’s charges against the galamsey queen, Aisha Huang are weak, and that he should strengthen it.
The AG accused Aisha Huang of committing four offences; undertaking mining without a license, facilitating the participation of persons engaged in a mining operation contrary to law, illegal employment of foreign nationals and entering Ghana while prohibited from re-entry.
Lawyer Ralph Agyapong speaking with Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning Show said that ”the Attorney General is a very sharp and meticulous guy- he does his work diligently. He is the only person who is backed by article 88 of Ghana’s constitution. He can decide who should be charged or not. The media is only blowing the issue out of proportion. If we are to read the charges without fact, it will not help. The AG charges goes to the High Court and she will be asked whether she is guilty or not, when she says she is not guilty, the burden is put on the AG to provide evidence”.
Lawyer Agyapong admonished the media to refrain from using sensational headlines without fact.
