Communication team member of the New Patriotic Party, Kafui Amega, has voiced out his reservations in relation to the debt exchange programme despite praising it as one of the solutions to Ghana’s problems.
Speaking in an interview with Kwaku Dawuro, on Movement In The Morning, on Movement TV/Wontumi radio radio, Kafui Amega stated that, in as much as the Debt Exchange program is a great initiative, the approach to it was wrong, hence leading us to the state the economy is in currently.
He noted that ”Kwaku the issue is, i have a reservation about the Debt Exchange Programme. It is something that would cause a challenge if we didn’t have, but the approach from the very onset was not right. We came to sit here to discuss it when the attorney general brought his recommendations and process to use, and the way we can have this Programme done without having repercussions we are currently facing.
Kwaku Strange enough, the leader of the pensioneers is the former executive director of security and exchange commission, Dr Anane Antwi, so he knows what he is pressing on, but Kwaku when the Debt Exchanged was first introduced, Attorney General Godfred Dame made us understand it is a plea we have to put before the citizens, for them to understand how much help of their help we need for this programme to be successful. I had several calls regarding Finance Minister’s statement requesting helping each other, and bond holders are asking the benefit they will get from the government if they should help. I always talk with this passion because i am an investment banker, and i understand the essence of putting your investment into a fund that you’ll find difficult when withdrawing.”
