The Director-General Of DVLA Must Be Blamed For The Clash Between Pragya Operators And The Police- Daniel Agyenim Boateng Explains Why

Deputy Ashanti regional youth organizer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Agyenim Boateng, has faulted the Director-General of Drivers and Vehicles Licensing Authority (DVLA), for the recent impasse between Pragya operators and the police.

This comes after tensions flared in Kumasi as a clash between police officers and tricycle operators resulted in six officers sustaining injuries. The confrontation ensued after the tricycle operators, rallied at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) offices to reclaim their seized vehicles.

The conflict stems from the KMA’s decision to ban the operation of tricycles within the central business district of Kumasi, a move that has generated significant controversy and resistance from the tricycle operators.

“There are two institutions that I have problem with them, which I believe are the reason for this scuffle. One is the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA). Whoever is in charge or heads that institution, should be ashamed for not enforcing the laws that governs our land…Pragya operators are not allowed to have on-board three passengers at a time, yet we find these people doing it. My problem is that the DVLA has been issuing license to riders who are under 18 years”, he said on Movement In The Morning show on Movement TV.

Adding that it has become too rampant in the country to the extent that some of the riders, are in possession of fake licenses.

He went further to shift blame also on the Motor Traffic & Transport Directorate (MTTD) for not thoroughly checking the license of the riders.

“For the rider to stage such a big demonstration because of KMA’s decision, then we need to urgently do something about this before it gets out of hand…it is becoming problematic”, he stated.
