The first vice chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), for Okaikoi South constituency, Daniel Nkrumah has stated that the leadership of the Akufo-Addo led administration is bent on ensuring the economy bounces back to normalcy, hence, the reason the cedi has begun appreciating against the dollar.
“The NPP was really criticized and chastised during the depreciation of the cedi- for which others mocked us with our mantra of breaking the-eight-year cycle”, he spoke on Movement in the morning on Wontumi Radio/Movement TV.
“Many traders were inflating the prices of their wares but turn to blame the government- as the transport unions also did same, blaming the hike in fuel prices as the cause. This really affected the government and the party- due to the effect it had on the ordinary Ghanaian who also had to chastise the government”, he told Kwaku Dawuro.
Adding that “but thanks be to God and the good leadership of the government, the cedi has really appreciated beyond imagination, and I pray its sustained”.
Mr. Nkrumah questions the ‘sense’ in the utterances made by an NDC MP who said that the stabilization of the dollar is as a result of a charm obtained from India by vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia- as most of the NDC members have described the development as nine-day wonder.
He continued by saying the same trotro drivers who were eager to increase transportation fares have refused to reduce the fares, when the fuel prices were reduced, they are now blaming the spare parts dealers, but the spare parts dealers have refuted such claims, nothing that they’ve reduced the prices of their spare parts.
Mr. Daniel Nkrumah stressed that this was the same thing the market women were doing- complaining about transportation fare, of which the Agric ministry decided to transport food from the farmgate to the cities, to sell at an affordable price.
