It’s unfortunate that many Ghanaians prioritize the delivery of a message over its substance. We often get caught up in how something is said, rather than focusing on the facts. This tendency leads us to overlook important points and repeat mistakes.
Let’s consider the achievements of various leaders in Ghana:
– Education: Kwame Nkrumah provided limited free education in the northern regions. John Mahama’s administration offered free education to selected day students. Akufo-Addo, on the other hand, has implemented free education for all Ghanaian children, from JHS to SHS and vocational training (TVET). It’s clear who has done better.
– Roads: Nkrumah built a single two-lane motorway. John Mahama’s administration didn’t add any new roads. Akufo-Addo is expanding the motorway to six lanes with a flyover. The progress is evident.
– Sports: Nkrumah built the Accra Sports Stadium (Ohene Djan Stadium) in 1960. John Mahama’s administration didn’t add any new stadiums. Akufo-Addo has built the Borteiman sports stadium, numerous astro turfs, and sports resource centers across the country. The achievement is clear.
– Hospitals: Nkrumah built few hospitals (excluding Korle Bu). John Mahama’s administration-built phase one of the UGMC hospital. Akufo-Addo has completed phase two of UGMC, is building Agenda 111 hospitals, and rebuilding the over 40-year-old mother and child hospital in Kumasi. The progress is undeniable.
– Electricity: Nkrumah built the Akosombo Dam. John Mahama’s administration didn’t add any new power sources. Akufo-Addo is building the Pwalugu Dam, a project initiated by Nkrumah.
Given these facts, the fuss over NAPO’s comment is unnecessary and unfounded. We should focus on the substance of the message rather than how it was delivered.
