The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem (KEEA), hon. Solomon Ebo Appiah, has revealed that the Komenda Sugar Factory is 99 percent complete.
According to the MCE, major works undertaken at the factory have been completed and there has been a test run with the machines for the third time.
Speaking to Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning Show, he said “the factory is 99% complete and the 1% left is to start production. If you’re from the Central region and KEEA constituency, then you should pray that God blesses Akufo-Addo with long life because we never thought we could come this far. There was a whole hullabaloo about the factory- even the NDC doubted this could be possible, as they alleged that we were importing raw visuals but God been so good it never happened so”.
“If you look at the state of the Komenda sugar factory under Mahama’s administration, you would have never liked it; insecticides and rodents had taken over the place but the narrative is different now”, Mr. Appiah stated.
He however revealed that everything in the factory is new. “Construction of a new water reservoir of 2 million litre capacity has been completed and this is an enhancement from the existing reservoir of 150,000 litres which was inherited. A New warehouse for raw sugar which would have a jumbo bag of between 1 ton to 5,000 tonnes capacity for the storage of sugar is currently ongoing”, he added.
The MCE further noted that there would never be a time where raw materials like the sugarcane to run the factory will be difficult to find. “105 Ghana cedis excluding transportation and workmanship for those cutting the sugarcane is what we pay for per ton of the sugarcane and that is to the benefit of the farmers”, hon. Appiah stated.
“In two or three months we will start commercial production”, he concluded.
