A deputy Director of communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ernest Owusu-Bempah has said that but for the intervention of the NPP government, the NDC were running the banking sector as a casino. Â
According to him, the management of the banking sector was so poor under the tenure of the erstwhile Mahama’s administration to the extent that there were instances where customers were not even able to access their funds. Â
“Millions of cedis belonging to depositors were nowhere to be found. Had it not been for the intervention of the President’s banking sector clean-up, millions of traders listening to me now would have been in a dire mess. Depositors had to join long queues only to withdraw 200 cedis and the Bank of Ghana was aware of the pending failure in 2015″, he told Kwaku Dawuro on Movement in the morning show on Movement TV/Wontumi Radio.Â
Stressing that “There would have been a distress in the banking sector if the NDC was in power. The NPP government deposited an amount of 21.6Billion cedis to save the depositors from the distress they would have gone through. That bailout was very significant in the history of Ghana”.
