The NDCs Do Not Understand What Democracy Is- Alexander Martey Asserts

A Presidential Staffer, Alexander Martey has said that the NDCs do not really understand what democracy means.

This comes after some NDC sympathizers are chastising the NDC MPs for voting in favour of the approval of six ministerial nominees last Friday- despite the directive from the party leadership.

Speaking on Movement In The Morning Show on Movement TV and Wontumi radio in Accra, he said “if he monitors the current happenings with regards to the approval of the ministers, he is crestfallen. Because it looks as though most of them (NDC) do not really understand what democracy is. The Members of Parliament were elected to take decision for their constituents and not to be controlled by their party”.

Responding to claims by the opposition that Akufo-Addo’s gov’t is bloated hence the reason they didn’t want to approve the nominees, he asked if this is the only time the country is faced with economic challenges?

“When we had ‘dumsor’ for about five years leading to the collapse of businesses among others, were we not in critical times then too. But how many appointees were former President Mahama running the country with? Could it be said that they were also wasting state resources like they are currently accusing President Akufo-Addo? “, he asked.

Adding that he had 85 ministers with only 10 regions. President Akufo-Addo has created 6 more regions with regional ministers, but no deputies and they are still working perfectly. That means former President Mahama could have also worked without the deputy regional ministers, but he didn’t. Yet, they were all taking double salaries.
