Greater Accra regional Director of elections and research for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ebenezer Doku, had advised the party to ensure that it appoints a running mate who will be able to bring a lot more votes on board.
He’s of the view that the selection of a running mate shouldn’t be made based on the popularity of the potential candidate.
“We shouldn’t make a mistake of selection a candidate based on popularity…it shouldn’t be about how long you’ve been with the party or how famous you are…it’s about figures and number and thus, we should focus on who brings more of the figures and votes to the table…if we can get someone from nowhere who can help garner more votes for the party, then let’s go for the person..”, he told Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning show on Movement TV.
He refused to mention names though but noted that there are a lot of people who are fine candidates for the position.
“There are people who are not political but if given the opportunity, we can make significant gains in the next elections…we need to know that elections 2024 is a very crucial one and therefore we need to ensure that we play our cards very well…. I believe Dr. Bawumia will make a good choice for the party”, he added.
