The National Treasurer for Ghana Union Traders Association (GUTA), Benjamin Yeboah, has accused government of not making a deliberate effort to synchronize the trades union and the trade ministry unto a single platform to promote exportation.
He revealed on Movement in the morning show on Wontumi Radio/Movement TV that GUTA recently held a meeting with the Ghana Export Promotion Authority to discuss what opportunities are available to support the government’s import substitution by promoting exportation.
He told Kwaku Dawuro that “as traders, all we care about is to get goods and sell for profit, hence do not necessarily focus on whether its imported or produced locally. We are in business. But our problem has got to do with communication. Government hasn’t been able to make known to us, what companies we could get in touch with, if we want to export our goods”.
He notes that there should be a common platform for both the traders and companies, so they could be holding Business to business meetings, which he believes will help boost their interest in the locally produced items here in Ghana.
“Nothing of sort has been done. We’ve been left to our fate. There are times, we have to go on google to do research ourselves. So, what happens to those who may be illiterate but have capital to invest in exportation?
We have been left to do it ourselves. But that’s why we have the trades ministry, Ghana Export and Promotion Authority among others so that our efforts will be collaborated”, he stressed. To
