Things Would’ve Been Worser If Mahama Was The President- Prof Haruna

Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Professor Haruna Mohammed has said that if not for President Akufo-Addo, things would have been worser than it is following the outbreak of COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war.

According to him, the NPP has admitted on several grounds that things are not going as expected, but the current administration has been able to live up to expectation.

“If you look at the implementation of programs from 1992, then you will know NPP is the only legitimate party that has done so many things to bring relief to Ghanaians. If NPP wasn’t on the seat of governance today, Ghana would have been worse off. In terms of disaster, you can weigh the leadership of NPP and the other political party and know what political party is up to task. What solution could they proffered? Even in opposition we were doing the most.”, he told Kwaku Dawuro on Movement in the morning show on Wontumi Radio/Movement TV.

He stressed that the NPP is capable of breaking the eight-year jinx but will need the support of all Ghanaians.

“When Mahama was in power, we had an internal crisis and for four good years, we were living in power outages and that was the most tangible thing he was able to do. In his book dubbed ‘My first coup d’état’ he noted that as a young guy riding bicycle on the lane, he couldn’t take decisions on my own- so if he couldn’t take decisions for himself, do you think he could have done that for the entire country? Going to the IMF under his leadership for a bailout was due to policy credibility”, he explained.

He added that “But for the NPP, we are going to the IMF due to balance of payment issue which was caused by reckless spending and contracts signed by the NDC. When the NDC was handing over power to the NPP, the growth of the economy was 3.4% even when the was nothing like free SHS, 1D1F, drone services, Agenda 111, nothing like recruitment of 200,000 Ghanaians into the public service and yet look at the growth rate. But, after Nana Addo took over in September 2017

3.4% was the growth of the economy when Mahama was handing over- there was nothing like free SHS, 1D1F, drone services, Agenda 111, nothing like recruitment of 200,000 Ghanaians into public service and yet look at the growth rate as of 2018, our economy grew at 7.7.%.
