A communications team member of the ruling New Patriotic Party, Nana Mprah, is urging the youth of Ghana to exercise restraint in venting their anger, over the current unemployment situation in the country.
Speaking to Kweku Dawuro on the “Movement In The Morning Political Show”, he noted, that although the government is faced with economic challenges as a result of the ongoing crisis, such as Covid-19 among others, it’s been able to reduce the unemployment rate of 9.5% which was inherited from the erstwhile Mahama’s administration to 7.5%. This is a clear indication of the government’s commitment and determination in reducing unemployment in Ghana.
He added, that a clear indication of the government’s effort to address the unemployment rate, is the implementation of the 1 district 1 factory (1D1F) initiative, Planting for Food and Jobs, and the Nation Builder Corps, among others. He, however, noted the central government alone cannot address the unemployment challenge, it’s a collective effort, and as such, all Ghanaians must be involved.
He reiterates the government’s policy which is aimed at creating one million jobs for the youth, hence the ‘YouStart’ initiative. ”Government cannot employ all graduates and thus, it has become critical, that the
youth venture into entrepreneurship. In this regard, the government is equally committed to creating an entrepreneurial environment for the youth”, he assured.
His comments come on the back of the recent threat of terrorism in Ghana, as the Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has noted, Increasingly, intelligence reports suggest that some Ghanaian have been involved in terrorist attacks in the Sahelian region.
The Ofoase Ayirebi MP, stressed, “what that means is that there has been the possible recruitment of Ghanaians by some terrorist groups in the West African sub-region”. Meanwhile, He says the government has put security agencies on high alert.
According to him, several efforts are underway, to ensure that the country is protected from any form of attack.
Nana Mprah further urged Ghanaian youth not to succumb to any terrorist group, due to the current unemployment situation, as the government is still committed to addressing the situation.
