Togolese National, One Other Transporting Father’s Corpse For Burial Shot Dead In Bawku Conflict

In the latest update on violence linked to the ongoing Bawku conflict, two individuals were shot dead in an ambush while traveling by truck from Bawku.

According to a citinewsroom.com report, unidentified gunmen opened fire on the vehicle, resulting in the tragic deaths of both passengers.

The deceased include a Mamprusi man and a Togolese national. Reports indicate that the Togolese victim had been in Bawku to care for his ailing father, who recently passed away.

They were en route to Togo with the body of his father when they were attacked.

The Bawku conflict, primarily fueled by longstanding chieftaincy disputes and ethnic tensions, has led to severe unrest in the area.

Violence has intensified in recent months, with clashes between rival groups resulting in numerous fatalities and heightened fear among residents. The situation escalated further following the return of a rival chief, triggering renewed ethnic hostilities.

Security forces have been deployed to contain the violence, yet the sporadic attacks continue. With this recent ambush, the death toll from the ongoing conflict has now reached 19.
