The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ghana Private Roads and Transport Union (GPRTU), Abass Ibrahim Moro, has hinted that the union will be meeting on Wednesday June 22, 2022 to finalize its decision to increase transport fares again in the coming days.
Speaking to Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning Show, Mr. Moro noted that this has become necessary due to a secured data from the Bulk Oil Distribution Companies that prices of petroleum products are expected to witness one of the biggest jumps in recent time, effective Thursday June 23, 2022.
“Definitely there will be an increase in transport fares but I cannot tell what percentage it will be; however, we are very sensitive to the plights of passengers who are our relatives hence we will be very moderate. We will meet by Wednesday to draw a conclusion and present our demands to the government. No fixed percentage has been decided yet”, he indicated.
He however stated that various factors will be considered before a fixed percentage is determined.
“Prices of spare parts, lubricants have not changed-if by then the price haven’t changed then we shall dwell only on the fuel and that won’t be much higher,” he added.
