Until 2017 I Always Borrowed From The Bank To Pay My Wards’ Fees- First Deputy Speaker Of Parliament

The first deputy Speaker of Parliament who is also the Member of Parliament for Bekwai, Honourable Joseph Osei-Owusu has noted that until 2017, he was always borrowing money from the bank since 2009 to settle his wards fees.

This he explained that was because he was always thinking about the welfare of his constituents rather than himself and as such, was always supporting them and end up exhausting his funds. Hence, was left with no other option than to borrow from the bank to settle his wards fees.

He noted that aside from their monthly salaries as Member of Parliament, there’s no other support coming from elsewhere. Meanwhile, there are always inundated with pleas from their constituent, whom if they are not able to grant, it creates a bad impression about them.

Speaking in an interview on phone with Kwaku Dawuro on Movement in the morning show on Movement TV/ Wontumi Radio “the conversations about profiling the health status of the members in order to take good care of themselves was discussed again in Parliament yesterday by both sides of the house and will communicate to the speaker of Parliament once conclusions are drawn, for approval”.

This comes after sitting Member of Parliament (MP), for Kumawu, Philip Basoah kicked the bucket on Tuesday.

The Bekwai lawmaker noted that there was the need for Members of Parliament to prioritize their health, due to how stressful the nature of their job is.

“It’s our fervent prayer that God answers our prayers and make things easier for us”, he stressed.
