Dean of the Faculty of Accounting at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Professor Isaac Boadi, has publicly expressed his disappointment with the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) members for failing to return after their motherboard declared an end to strikes following the election results.
In an interview on Movement In The Morning Show on Movement TV/Wontumi Radio, Accra, with Kwaku Dawuro, Professor Boadi stated that this is the first time he has felt ashamed as a UTAG member due to the union’s failure to implement beneficial policies.
” We were expecting the UTAG members to come back, but they refused. This is the first time I’ve been ashamed as a UTAG member,” Professor Boadi said.
Despite the ongoing strikes and demonstrations at other institutions, UPSA students are still attending classes, running a thirteen-month program currently in its sixth month.
Professor Boadi noted that students have paid their school fees and hostel fees for the semester, but there are no plans for them to go home or stay on campus.
Professor Boadi criticized the government for not providing solutions to UTAG members, particularly regarding illegal mining issues.
He emphasized that the university sector should be valued for its potential to provide solutions rather than being known for strikes and demonstrations.
In a related development, Professor Boadi announced that an international press conference is scheduled for Tuesday, October 15. UTAG members from across the country will convene to declare their commission and provide information to the public.
