A communicator of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Kay, has said the loans the NPP has secured are used to pay off what he described as ‘senseless’ loans that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) took while in power.
He said this on Movement In The Morning Show with Kwaku Dawuro on Friday, 22nd July 2022.
He said, “one of the things that take the country into economic recession is buying on credit. The same mobile phones we buy for Three Thousand Ghana cedis(3000gh), when someone is supplying to government they sell it at over Twenty thousand Ghana cedis(20,000gh) per phone because the person will be paid in the next 4 years. during the tenure of former President Kufuor, he used internally generated funds to construct most of the major roads in the country’’.
‘’Today I will respond to the question often asked by the NDC’s, regarding loans the NPP government had secured. We use it to service the ‘senseless’ money they took while in power. We are using the money to pay off the loans and the interest they embezzled. The NDC’s have taken the country to a state where it can’t survive without loans’’, he added.
On Wednesday 20th July, 2022, parliament approved a $750 million loan agreement with Afrexim bank to fund infrastructure projects.
