Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton has admitted that his team wasn’t as good as expected at the 2023 AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire.
He said this in his post game presser after Ghana blew a 2-0 lead to end a Group B game against Mozambique tied at 2-2.
Ghana led through two converted penalty kicks from Jordan Ayew in the 15th and 70th minute respectively but conceded twice in four minutes after the 90th minute to drop two crucial points.
The dropped points mean Ghana can’t qualify automatically to the round of 16 stage and need favourable results in other games to progress to the next round of the tournament.
Speaking after the disappointing finish to the contest, Hughton said, “We were in a position where you had to score three goals to be safe. We lost concentration. It’s very difficult when you hold a two-goal lead and get caught up in a few minutes.
“We haven’t been as good as we would have hoped. We lost a lot of points. We we put ourselves in a good position to win but we were caught.”
Ghana is on the verge of crashing at the group stage in back to back AFCONS.
