Management of Akonta Mining Limited has responded to allegations that it has mined in the Tano Nnimri forest.
In a release copied to the media, the mining firm debunked allegations that thr Tano river has been polluted as a result of their mining activities.

The management of Akonta Mining has taken note of the recent media reportage from a section of the media outlets which seek to paint a picture to the whole world that Akonta Mining is an irresponsible mining company if not a galamseyer.
In view of the above, the Company would like to set the record straight relative to its legal status, operations and related matters.
1/ Akonta Mining is a legally registered company under the laws of Ghana established by indigenous Ghanaians with the aim of engaging in responsible mining.
2/ In pursuit of its articles of incorporation, the Company applied for and has a mining lease created in its favour in the Samreboe area.
3/ The Company after securing the lease moved into occupation and took possession of the leased land which was actively being mined by galamseyers.
4/ It bears to note that as there were several pits left behind by illegal miners, Akonta had to reclaim greater portion of the land at its cost.
5/ Akonta Mines had to convert some of the pits into a pond as part of its washing plant which includes a Mercury free equipment.
6/ All these are being done in preparation for a responsible mining.
7/ Akonta Mining wants to place it on record that it has not done any operation and or mined in the Tano Nnimri forest as some media houses have sought to portray.
8/ A video footage doing the rounds in the media suggesting that the pollution of the Tano river is as a result of Akonta Mining clearly gives away those responsible for the footage as having a sinister motive.
9/ If Akonta is responsible, why is the river of the same state up stream and down stream in the area where it is being alleged Akonta has its operations office?
10/ How can a drone footage give an accurate measurement from the area alleged to be Akonta Mines operations office and the banks of the river?.
11/ What are the names of those who have allegedly polluted the river up stream?
12/ Is it not strange that video of an alleged violence that took place elsewhere was conveniently circulated to look as if it was an act by employees of Akonta.
13/ We would like to assure all Ghanaians that Akonta Mining is a responsible mining company and will order its business as required by law.
14/ However it is our wish that the media would be responsible enough to also engage with those they seek to crucify.
15/ Again the idea that mining by a Ghanaian must by whatever means be placed in the galamsey bracket must end.
