The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assured Hon. John Kumah of his commitment to set aside a day to celebrate entrepreneurship in Ghana.
Addressing a gathering during the fourth season of the Presidential Pitch, President Akufo-Addo announced that “I want to let the deputy Minister for Finance, my good friend Jonny Kumah know that we will find a day to celebrate entrepreneurship . May God bless us all and our homeland Ghana and make us great and strong. Thank you.”
On Friday, 18th August 2023, President Akufo-Addo honoured some young men and women entrepreneurs, who have defied the odds to venture into business, and have created jobs for themselves and for other Ghanaians.
Since the onset of the Presidential Pitch, in 2017, three (3) editions of the Presidential Pitch, with thirty (30) young entrepreneurs having been awarded cash prizes to help set up and scale up their enterprises.
In a post on the president’s facebook page, he stated “Entrepreneurship is a vital component of economic growth and development, and has been embraced globally as an important driver of economic transformation. I believe firmly that the fastest way to deal with the challenges confronting our economy and the unacceptable rate of unemployment is the fusion of technology, entrepreneurship, and business.”
He also singled out the Chief Executive Officer of Pizzaman Chickenman, Christian Boakye Yiadom, who happened to be the tenth-place winner from Season Two for special mention.
“He started his pizza business on the campus of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi. He received twenty-five thousand cedis (25,000), which he used to scale-up his business. It eventually led to the opening of the first Pizzaman Chickenman branch on KNUST campus on 17th January 2020, some six months after the competition. Today, Pizzaman Chickenman has become a household name and a favourite bite for many”, a post from President Akufo-Addo read.
