Why The Loud Silence On Wontumi’s Intimidation- Lawyer Adom Appiah To Peace Council and Human Right Lawyers

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Secretary, Lawyer Adom Appiah, has urged the Peace Council and the human right lawyers, to publicly condemn the ongoing intimidation and alleged infringement of rights, particularly in relation to the recent arrest of Chairman Wontumi.

Speaking on Wontumi TV, the counsel emphasized that building peace is not limited to election periods but requires sustained efforts over time. He expressed concern that the Peace Council’s silence on the matter could erode public confidence in the institution.

He questioned the apparent selective silence of the human rights lawyers, noting that while they were quick to comment on issues like transport fare reductions, they seemed reluctant to speak out against human rights violations. He drew comparisons to the previous administration, suggesting that similar actions under Nana Addo’s government would have elicited strong reactions.

The lawyer called on human rights advocates and lawyers to speak out against the alleged infringement of Chairman Wontumi’s rights, questioning why such actions had not been condemned.
