NPP deputy communicator, Jennifer Oforiwaa Queen, has clarified that Ashanti Regional Chairman for NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Wontumi) has not been involved in mining operations for the past three years.
She attributed this halt to the NDC’s strategic exploitation of galamsey in 2020, which forced Wontumi’s operations to cease.
Speaking on Movement TV/Wontumi Radio’s morning show with Gordon Asare Bediako, Queen emphasized that Wontumi’s inactivity contradicts accusations of his involvement in galamsey.
She pointed out that Sammy Gyamfi, NDC’s communication Officer, organized youth gatherings and Press conferences at galamsey sites during the 2020 elections, to make the government unpopular.
Queen also accused NDC’s running mate, Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, of promoting illegal mining. The environmental damage caused by galamsey has led to a 1.7% increase in water bills due to destruction of water bodies.
Queen criticized Democracy Hub’s recent demonstration, which blocked roads and disrupted essential travel.
She demanded that Ghanaian authorities hold accountable those responsible.
