World Vision International has launched a groundbreaking initiative aimed at transforming the lives of over 800,000 farmers in Ghana. The THRIVE 2030 Project seeks to improve household resilience and livelihoods through a comprehensive approach that combines mindset transformation, financial empowerment, sustainable agricultural practices, and access to capital.
The project’s first pillar focuses on mindset transformation, using the Empowered Worldview Curriculum to help beneficiaries understand their needs and develop household business plans. This approach serves as a roadmap out of poverty, equipping individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to improve their economic situation.
The second pillar, known as “Savings for Transformation,” enables community-based savings groups to pool funds weekly and access small loans to support business activities. This initiative fosters a culture of savings and provides a safety net for community members, while also offering opportunities for financial growth.
In addition to mindset transformation and savings, the project emphasizes sustainable agricultural practices and market integration. Farmers will receive training on how to produce sustainably and tap into value chains, enhancing their income and improving their livelihoods.
The final component of the project involves capital injection through VisionFund Ghana, the microfinance arm of World Vision. The organization will provide financial support tailored to the economic activities of beneficiaries, accelerating growth within savings groups and enabling them to expand their businesses.
A key aspect of the project is its use of digital technology to enhance transparency and efficiency. THRIVE 2030 will deploy mobile phones and a dedicated app to replace manual savings group processes, allowing beneficiaries to track their financial status from anywhere.
Partners in the project, including Fairtrade Ghana, Esoko, and Farm Concern International, will play crucial roles in its implementation. Esoko’s Digimart platform, for instance, will provide farmers with real-time market information, supporting income growth and helping them make informed decisions about their agricultural activities.
By combining mindset shift, financial access, market integration, and digital innovation, the THRIVE 2030 Project positions Ghanaian farmers for long-term resilience and prosperity, potentially becoming a game-changer in the fight against rural poverty.
