The lawyer representing Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed disappointment in the Deputy Attorney General, Justice Srem-Sai.
The disappointment stems from the Deputy AG’s public comments regarding the ongoing investigation into Chairman Wontumi’s dealings.
According to the lawyer, Andy Appiah-Kubi, the Deputy AG’s remarks are prejudicial and undermine the integrity of the investigation process. Appiah-Kubi emphasized that the case is still in its preliminary stages, with the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) investigating whether Chairman Wontumi’s actions have caused financial loss to the state.
The lawyer stressed that prosecution should occur in a court of law, not through public statements or social media.
He found it shocking that sensitive information was released to the public before the defense team was officially notified, potentially compromising Chairman Wontumi’s human rights and the pursuit of justice.
Appiah-Kubi reacted to the Deputy AG’s post, which detailed the investigation into Chairman Wontumi for various offenses, including fraud and money laundering. The lawyer believes the public statement was premature and unnecessary, potentially influencing public opinion and prejudicing the case.
