Zamalek To Host Black Meteors Ahead Of U-23 AFCON

The Black Meteors will engage in a pre-tournament friendly against Egyptian heavyweights Zamalek on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, as they continue preparations ahead of the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) which is expected to kick off this weekend in Morocco.

The Ghana Football Association confirmed this in a  statement released on Monday.

“The Black Meteors will face Egyptian giants Zamalek FC in a friendly match at the Zamalek Sports Complex.

“The test game will be played on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at 5:30 pm (2:30 pm GMT),” read the statement.

The match against Zamalek is supposed to be Ghana’s last preparatory game before they set off to Morocco later for the competition which starts on Saturday.

The game will follow Ghana’s 1-1 stalemate with Egypt last Thursday at the Alexandria Stadium.

The team will be expecting the arrival of the Black Stars trio Kamaldeen Sulemana, Enerst Nuamah and Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer as soon as possible to integrate well with the rest of the squad before their first game on Sunday against Congo.

While setting their sights on a top three finish at the end of the tournament in a bid to end their 20-year absence at the Olympic Games, Ibrahim Tanko’s men are equally targeting the ultimate trophy.
