The former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman for New Juaben North, Kwadwo Boateng Agyemang, has called on government to close all dollar accounts.
His comment comes after President Akufo-Addo addressed the nations on measures he is deploying to build the country’s economy.
While speaking with Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning Show Chairman Kwadwo Boateng stated closing dollar accounts will help fight the depreciation of the cedi.
”We must close all foreign account , and only sell the dollar to people who are travailing outside the country. Go to Germany and you will not find any one opening a cedi or dollar account. I was in London some time ago and I wanted 1000 poundz, it took the bank three days before they got it for me because they had to order, meanwhile the bank is one of the most popular banks’’, he said.
”We have all taken advantage of the system for a long time, including politicians and citizens. Why is Bank of Ghana not putting measures on the dollar rates? They are benefiting from the dollar we bring into our system, the reason they are not able to put measures on it’’, he added.
He further stated that in resolving the dollarization problem, government and policy makers must put strict measures on ensuring the right things are done, stressing all dollar accounts must be closed.
