The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has described Joy FM as a propaganda station, adding that the owner of the Multimedia group, Kwasi Twum is a staunch member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
His comment comes after Joy FM which is a subsidiary of the conglomerate made a false publication that his(chairman Wontumi) mining company, Akonta mining, is involved in illegal mining activities.
Speaking to Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning Show he said that ”as a genuine media station, if anyone gives a tip off or presents a case, you first listen to the side of the accused and then the accuser to have a fair grounds in understanding the issue. But Joy FM was not fair with me. No one gave me the chance to speak”.
”Where is my freedom and justice in your media ethics?”, Chairman Wontumi queried.
”They went about spreading false documentaries. I am operating with the same license AngloGold Ashanti is using. I am not surprised by their actions because the station is a propaganda station- they are only spreading propaganda and fake news. They have lowered their standard”, he added.
”Kwasi Twum, I know you belong to the NDC-talk to your media personalities to exhibit professionalism. Samatex is not bigger than mine, we all work under the law. The mining sector alone contributes 7 billion dollars to the economy which is half of our economic growth, we are all playing key role in Ghana’s economic growth”, Chairman Wontumi indicated.
