The Ejisu By-Election Will Determine NPP’s Fortunes In Ashanti Region- Kafui Amegah

A member of the New Patriotic Party’s communications team, Kafui Amegah, has asserted that the result of the upcoming by-election in Ejisu will determine the party’s fortunes in the upcoming General Election, in the Ashanti region.

He noted that although it might not be a true reflection of what the general election will be, it will give the party an idea of how things will pan out in the December polls.

Speaking to Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning show on Movement TV/ Wontumi Radio, Kafui Amegah indicated that certain errors committed by the party during the Assin North by-election shouldn’t be repeated. Left to him alone, he would have suggested that campaign rally should be held for the purpose of the by-election. The best to do is to move from house to house, door-to-door to speak to the electorates directly.

“Ejisuman should be left to run their own campaign. There are a lot of people who throng Assin North during the by-election and there was no positive impact from their presence. They never executed the purpose for which they went there. I think the best to do is to leave the campaign for NPP-Ejisuman to run. I will urge the President, not to have any rally held in Ejisu, so that there would be any speech that would create fear”, he said.

“Ejisu By-election will determine how the 2024 elections will be in Ashanti region…at least, it gives a tip of the iceberg…Kwaku, if it doesn’t play out as we want it as a party then we know we have got a lot to do…since it’s a by-election, we wouldn’t get all electorates casting their ballot because there are people who vote in Ejisu but are currently residing in Accra…However, the results we had in the 2020 elections, shouldn’t drop significantly, even if we have to win…. If the party is still strong in its stronghold, then the vibrancy should be there…it cannot be a true reflection, but it can give us an idea of how it’s going to be”, he explained.

He admonished party executives in the region to ensure that they whip the electorates to go out and vote on the day of elections.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has set April 30, 2024, as the date for the Ejisu constituency by-election in the Ashanti region following the passing of the Member of Parliament (MP) and Deputy Finance Minister, Dr. John Kumah on March 7, 2024.

Dr. Kumah’s death, attributed to a brief illness, has left a widow and six children mourning his loss.

The announcement came during an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Tuesday, April 9.
