We Are Only Partnering The Clubs And Not Sponsorship- NHIA

The Communications and media relations Manager for the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Barima Sarpong, has debunked claims that the NHIA is sponsoring three newly promoted football clubs to the Ghana Premier League while owing health providers over 8 months.

Explaining this on Movement In The Morning Show with Kwaku Dawuro, Mr. Sarpong clarified that “It’s a partnership we are having with the clubs and not sponsorship. It’s a friendly partnership that will help both parties and there will be no financial commitment. There are things we will do to help the teams and its members and vice versa. There’s nothing to be paid”.

This comes after it was widely published that the NHIA owes private and quasi-health facilities since the beginning of the year, adding that most of the health facilities are in dire need of funds to run their day-to-day activities – as about three percent of the Private Health Facilities Association members have only received the arrears of January, this year.

But according to Mr. Sarpong, the health providers do not provide their documents early on time to receive their claims, there are some who sometimes have to wait till three months before presenting it, and yet turn to blame the NHIA for late payments.

He therefore dismissed claims that the Authority is owing health providers eight(8) months arrears.

Stressing that “We have had engagements with the providers to know how best to handle this and very soon, we will be operating electronically- that should happen within the next 12 to 18 months”.
