What Is Mahama Coming Back To Do?- Ebenezer Doku Asks

The Greater Accra regional Director of research and elections, Ebenezer Doku, has questioned what exactly former President Mahama can do to improve the livelihood of Ghanaians hence the reason why he wants to be re-elected.

Speaking on the current state of the Ghanaian economy amidst the global crisis, Mr. Doku told Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning Show that ”whatever happens to the depreciation of the cedi affects us all so once it’s beginning to appreciate then we thank God. I know that our President Nana Addo and his Vice Dr. Bawumia are bringing the economy back to life and I think in the next few months, our former Minister of Agric has said that the syndicated loan of 1.3billion will hit the Bank of Ghana’s account and when it happens there will be more relief in our economy. I know with time, our fuel prices will reduce because the effect of the exchange rate accounts for the hike in fuel prices”.

He further noted that even In the midst of these difficulties, the President and his vice are providing a 15% Cost Of Living Allowance, COLA to public sector workers which he has never seen or heard of during the tenure of the previous government.

”There’s genuine difficulties in the economy. We all know what is happening but the President said he feels the workers of this country deserve to live. The workers proposed a 20% allowance with the hope that negotiations would end at 10% so they were surprised when it ended at 15% of which  some of them have admitted to and that’s how a country is governed. You think about the wellbeing of your citizens- we all know this wouldn’t persist forever”, he stressed.
Adding that ”I believe in the few months to come by the end of the year, the economy will take shape. Even in the midst of the difficulties we are facing, we are growing better as an economy than we did under John Dramani Mahama- in the midst of Covid-19 the economy is doing better than under John Mahama so the question is, what is Mahama coming back to do in this country?”

”We were in this country when you had to always call to find out if there was light at home. We have family members who lost their jobs, cold store operators losing their capital because we did not have constant power in this country. What Ghanaians have forgotten is that they told us we had excess capacity but due to selfish interest, they pushed us into a contract where we paid about 1 billion dollars a year even when we were not using the power batches…Yet, they are the same people lamenting over hardship”, he explained.

He further pleaded with Ghanaians to be very vigilant and not be deceived by the NDC.

”If we don’t take care and we allow the NDC to deceive us, we will regret. The only hope we have in this country is the NPP government”, he concluded.
