You Are Disrespecting Your Constituency- Freda Agyemang Sarpong Tells Adwoa Safo

A communications member for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freda Agyemang Sarpong, has said that Hon. Adwoa Safo, the Dome Kwabenya Member of Parliament (MP) is disrespecting her constituents by absenting herself from parliamentary duties.

The MP who doubles as the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection was re-elected in the 2020 general elections against Dr. Mike Oquaye Jnr.

In recent times, Hon. Adwoa Safo has been absenting herself from parliamentary proceedings with the justification that her child is sick abroad. She was last seen on duty in December 2021, however, she has been present on TikTok- a video sharing app.

Several people including her party members took to social media to speak against the conduct of the MP leading some to even petition President Akufo-Addo to replace her.

Adding her voice to the issue, Freda Sarpong told Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning Political Show said that, ‘’I sacrificed my time to campaign for Adwoa Safo’s re-election. But it happens that most of the people who joined the campaign are disappointed in her, this is not what we bargained for. She is supposed to be with the very people who brought her to power’’.

According to Freda, she left her family to join the Dome- Kwabenya campaign train.

“I have three kids but I left my children and husband to campaign for her. I supported her because she is a woman and I don’t believe in the idea of women are their enemies and I knew she could do the job”, she added.

She revealed how saddened she is with the behavior of the sitting MP and indicated that her action smacks of disrespect to her constituents who believed in her.

”Adwoa Safo needs to go back and work but if she does not want to do the job again she should resign. The Gender Ministry is big and if she cannot combine it with her parliamentary work she should tell President Akufo-Addo so he replaces her”, she said adding that ‘’she has done enough- she should return’’.
